• WHOA! someone edited my blog!

I looked at my last post to see if anyone commented, and BAM there are stars in place of the bad words I wrote. When did that happen?!? Was I just not swearing enough before?? (hahaa). Amazing. Who goes through and changes the bad words? I'm going to see what words they change:

Sorry, this is the only time I will intentionally swear...I'll try to keep it down next time haha. This is amazing. This is a fun test. I'm going to check again next week and see what's changes into stars.

  • 25 (er, 26) random facts about myself

ok, i wrote this on facebook and my close friends really got a kick out of it, so I thought you guys might enjoy it...i finally gave in to the whole 25 random facts about me thing after my old roommate Kayt gave in, and she barely goes on facebook.  here it is:

    25 Random Things

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

(To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.)

    1. I can lick my elbow. It's supposed to be impossible.

    2. I'm allergic to cats. If I'm exposed for too long, the whites of my eyes turn into this jelly-like substance, and when I look from left to right/up and down, my irises run/push into the whites of my eyes. It's awesomeeee.

    3. I pluck my armpit hairs, then shave for extra smoothness. I would rather pluck my armpit hairs than my eyebrows. I'm sure none of you wanted to know that.

    4. I've never successfully watched Aladdin or most of the Disney movies, but I love Disney.

    5. I enjoy people watching. But then again, everyone does. My favorite was in high school, where we sat in Aco's parking lot and predicted what cars would come, who would come out, and what they would be wearing. Ex. We'd guess a purple or tan Buick or Crown Victoria...Old man with a tan cabby with a matching tan jacket...sometimes accompanied by an old woman with a plastic hair cover. We were correct probably 4/5 times.

    6. I'm never fully happy with anything I produce/write...there is something that I always wish I would have changed or done better. But that's the nature of writing/producing/directing...

    7. I watched an entire Asian soap opera series all day with my parents once...and enjoyed it, from the bad voice dubs - Thai to Cambodian, the English subtitles, and the terrible resolution...

    8. I secretly wish I could get a bowl cut and straight bangs but I would only enjoy it for a second...the moment where I would laugh at how ridiculous my bowl cut was...then I would cry and debate whether I could pull off a weave.

    9. Sometimes my mind goes crazy when I'm in creative mode...too many things float around at once...I have to learn how to focus. But sometimes I go blank and that's fun too, having absolutely nothing on my mind.

    10. I have a collection of posters consisting of Doogie Howser - M.D., Tom Cruise, and Gerard Butler all hanging in my room...thank you, Justine.

    11. My sisters and cousins first got me drunk in 8th grade at my grandma's 90th birthday party (we slip and call it grandma's wedding sometimes). Everyone was confused because there were 5 of us wearing the same purple chinese dress, donning the asian glow.

    12. After I drink lots of coffee, my pee starts to smell like it. It freaks me out because my pee smells like something I enjoy drinking.

    13. I hate school. Really, it's ruining the fun-ness of college life. I think I had more worthwhile memories from back in high school because school wasn't a ***. Half of what I'm doing in college is not teaching me anything useful in life but is required for some crappy reason.

    14. I love these words/phrases: repulsive, honestly, dude, wiggin' out, bah, buddy, the childrennn, ridiculous, crap, ***, and *** it.

    15. I got suspended in 6th grade for a whole day once. I took an Accelerated Reading Test for Marko and this kid named Nathan tattled on me. I will never forgive him for that.

    16. I don't want to grow up. No really, I don't want to wear normal clothes. I want to wear my sweet gold, pink, and yellow Nike Dunk Lows, a yellow (not maize) MI Tee, and black leggings for the rest of my life. I hope I get a job where I don't have to wear a fancy dress pants and belt, because I tend to actually go to the bathroom later than I should, and I would probably piss my pants a lot if I had to wear a belt. I think that was more than one fact.

    17. When I grow up, I want a husband (duh), 2 or 3 children, a Yorkie named Cornchip, a walk-in closet filled with shoes, an island in my kitchen, a Lisa-room filled with pillows and lined with dry-erase boards, and a garage so I never have to scrape snow off my car ever again. Oh, and a really big backyard.

    18. I'm extremely lazy. I hate walking, because I start to sweat and I really hate sweat when I'm not intentionally making myself sweat (ex: when exercising).

    19. I really enjoy the Disney Channel, which I mentioned before. I know a lot of people do but I feel like I'm way too old to sincerely enjoy it. I think it's the fake innocence that gets me. I think my roommates know I secretly watch it because sometimes I turn off the TV and forget to switch the channel, so when they turn it on it's still on the Disney Channel.

    20. I'm really clean (as in not dirty), but really messy with my room and clothes, but really organized when it comes to school. I don't know why I'm like that.

    21. I'm a very, very, sensitive person. I cried while watching Animal Planet because there was this wolf thing that ate a baby duck looking thing. The baby bird/duck/thing with wings was so helpless, I couldn't watch it.

    22. Sometimes I get in a funk and am moody. I have a bad temper and am snappy, but only with my family. But I also cuddle with my family. Well, with Melinda because she is an incestuous *** with small hands and cold feet.

    23. I have a receding hairline, a nonexistent bridge, no eyelids (creases), and half the hair on my arms don't grow.

    24. I am a very secretive person. I'm sure all of you know that. I'm afraid of letting things out because I don't like to be judged. But then again, I am telling you these 25 facts...I'm working on it.

    25. I love to gossip and go to small get-togethers - I miss freshman year of college, when our room was dubbed the "dirty room" because all we would do was gossip about the dirty things people were doing in our hall. We would also spy on people, but that's another fact that I am not willing to fully reveal. I'm a stalker. Oh and I love drunken shenanigans with my buddies...

    26. I just realized Kayt did 26 random facts so I guess I will too because the number is typed out already. Oh, I will make this one about her. When Kayt and I met/chatted via AIM for the first time, I knew we would get along just fine after two instances: the first being when I asked if she was religious and she made a joke about putting jesus and mary statues above both our beds, and the other was when she asked me a blunt question in the middle of the night while in our lofts...
  • palin...

i wish i had something more intelligent to say about palin, but is it just me or does she look like Karen from Will & Grace????

it was totally bothering me in class today. now i can't look at her without thinking she's got a bottle of liquor in her purse lol

  • i got robbed...AGAIN

can you believe that? well, not ROBBED like a gun to my head...but stolen from. i was at work yesterday, and i had to go do this promotions thing for WRIF, and i had to shoot video of us giving people VIP passes to the kid rock concert next week. so i left my purse at the office because i didn't want to haul my huge ass bag around with me, and when i got back, my wallet was stolen.

you want to know what the best part was? i had $1 in my wallet. ONE DOLLAR. and i already cancelled my credit cards/debit cards. my dad laughed for a while because i'm that broke hahahaa. but at least this wasn't half as bad as last time.

i hate people.  i still can't get over the fact that i got stolen from twice in like, a month and a half. seriously!

  • so yeah, i got robbed...

while i was in the shower and some thief-man-woman broke into my house in AA and stole my laptop, cell phone, and wallet. i had my 10 page fiction portfolio on my computer, and of course i didn't back it up to my flash drive so i had to REWRITE THE WHOLE DAMN THING. i was furious. livid. about to slit someone's throat. it was due that same day i got robbed. thank god i got an extension. i had also just bought a brand new phone when i renewed my verizon contract two weeks before the robbery. of course my parents don't believe in insurance for anything. i had to replace all my cards, including debit, credit, mcard (i couldn't check out any video equipment/edit for my classes until i got a new one), and $40 in cash. wasn't a fun week. this happened sometime in may but i couldn't blog about it due to my missing laptop. i just got a new one (macbook pro! what an upgrade from my long-lost toshiba), which i was planning on buying when i graduate but it will be quite useful now. stupid boy roommates didn't lock the front door, and of course i was the one who was punished! erg. i'm still pissed. i'm never living with 6 boys again. at least it was only for two months.

  • i am officially done with school...

until april 29th, when i start spring term. i haven't slept in almost 24 hours. i just wrote two beautiful papers that i'm quite proud of and now i'm going to turn them in. then pack and get the hell out of the dorms! then i'm going to sign my lease for this spring/summer in AA. then i'm going to go home-home, eat good cambodian food, and sleep forever. by the way, this is random but i'm going to recommend reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I wrote a paper on that and Long Day's Journey into Night, by Eugene O'Neill. both very good, but The Road is my favorite book now. i had a hard time writing my paper because i couldn't stop reading the book when i was looking for quotes to put in my paper. i hope if i ever have to live in a post-apocalyptic world, i hope my husband is like the man in the book. ok i'm going to go now. byebye for now

  • i am is my life at the moment

    • 3 papers + 3 exams in the next 7 days.
    • i haven't gotten any replies back from any companies for internships yet and i am frustrated.
    • i'm trying to go through the next week without doing my laundry because i have no clean jeans left. i will wear leggings and sweats and old HS tshirts.
    • my tummy hurts from the amp energy drink/almond joy i just drank/ate.
    • i just got $100 from mflu study woohoo.
    • someone tapped into my checking account so i have to go file card fraud at the bank
    • i had to live last week without my debit card. realized i never used cash and should have pulled some money out before i closed my account.
    • i had to use coins from my piggy bank to buy hot and ready's this weekend.
    • a girl friend of mine made a boy cry yesterday - hilarious.
    • tomorrow is my last day of class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • i think i'm going to start blogging more

I think I just might do this more often. I mean, I might as well since I'm procrastinating like no other. So, how is everyone? Anyone watch American Idol? I don't. I don't really watch TV too much anymore - I did watch an episode of Zoey101 just for kicks while I was eating a cup-o-Ramen. I can't believe whats-her-face is pregnant. It's kind of old news, but it's so sad. Poor girl. I can't help but have sympathy for her, because I heard she was on birth control. Maybe that's not true. But I still feel bad because 16-year-olds get pregnant everyday...but whats-her-face is on the cover of every magazine. Jamie Lynn! That's her name.

Oh, about American Idol...I don't watch it but I did Youtube "American Idol" one day, and I'm IN LOVE with one of the guys that got kicked off the show really early...Josiah Leming. Anyone like him too? He was awful on AI but his videos on Youtube are soooo sooo good. He writes his own songs and composes them on the piano. So good. Don't know how else to explain it. I think it's his passion when he sings that gets to me. My favorites are "Her," "One Last Song," "Cigar," and "Bad News Baby." Youtube him!!!

I think I should get back to my work, since I'm 2 weeks behind in film theory. I'm not a very good role model.

Speaking of, I wonder if any of the film/television companies I applied to for internships this summer have looked at this blog. I guess I don't have anything to worry about except for the fact that I am the biggest procrastinator when it comes to school. *Sigh* I swear I'm not lazy at jobs!!! I'm very good worker...just not when it comes to reading theory...

  • is there such thing as happiness?

I was in English class this past week (the course name is "What Is Literature?"...our prof asked us that question the first day and we just stared at him. Turns out he couldn't answer us either..) and our class was discussing Alice Munro's collection of short stories, "A Friend of My Youth." We got on the subject of what the message was...what Munro was trying to say about life and happiness. The last line of the book is: "They are fairly happy." A girl raised her hand and said, "I think she's saying that something will always go wrong in life. Munro is not optimistic at all." I raised my hand and said: "I think that Munro is trying to tell us that life will always have it's problems, but the fact that the are "fairly" happy at the end shows that they are able to get through their obstacles. I think that she's trying to tell us that we can and will get through them." My optimistic answer caused an uproar in the corner and our class went on and on and on about Munro. We somehow got into "Do you think anyone can be TOTALLY happy?"

One person raised their hand and said, "People are never happy with their lives...they always want more." Another classmate: "Well, some people have all the money in the world, family, friends...but they're not happy." Then we got on the topic of needs and wants and the difference...anyways, the discussion got awfully confusing and off topic...The next comment I remember from one of my classmates was, "I think that you can be truly happy. It's when you don't have any problems, worries, and you are having the time of your life. Like the summer after my senior year..." one of my friends in the class says, "I don't think that anyone can ever be truly happy - there is always something you'll want or need, or some problem that is affecting you. I think that the only time that I will ever be HAPPY is when I'm on my deathbed, and I think back on my life and say to myself, 'Wow, I had a happy life.'" One of the girls in the corner that was angry about my optimistic answer ironically said to my friend, "You are being so pessimistic." Apparently she is the perfect balance between a pessimist and an optimist.

Anyways, the point of this blog was to say that class ended before I could say what I wanted to say about happiness and those people who have everything in the reminded me of Aarian Marshall's essay, Burning in Heaven. I'm not making a direct comparison or anything, it just sparked an idea in my head during class. I wanted to say that people can have textbook-happy lives but still want's a matter of the excitement. For instance, people don't go to movies to watch a static storyline - they go to see conflict. People naturally look for conflict. It's entertaining. You can't appreciate the happiness in life without the downfalls. Ok that's all for today!

  • so amy keeps mentioning this college essay...

Hello! This time I'm not blogging due to anxiety at 3 in the morning. At the book readings in Birmingham and Dearborn, Amy mentioned how I wrote a second piece that complemented my first essay - it got cut :(  but it's ok. I found it, and here's the opening 2 paragraphs...I didn't like the end of it as much so I didn't paste it :) This is a little outdated, since I'm 19 now and not a freshman in college. I guess I know what I'm doing with my life now too. Enjoy! (Hannah, Sarah, and I must've written this word down 50 times in the past 2 days...along with XOXO hahaa)

So I grew up. I’m in college now, striving to get an education that will one day help me get my dream job – the dream job I haven’t dreamt up yet. And as I’m getting this education, I have to deal and live in an environment that is completely different from the environment I lived in the first eighteen years of my life. Everyday I’m buried with school work and am surrounded by friends, creep-O’s, and stress, and of course - drama. From the moment I roll out of bed to the moment I roll back in, my life seems to be just as crazy as it was in high school…maybe even crazier.

Okay, so I lied - I don’t roll out of bed. If I did, I’d fall a whole seven feet and would probably fall head-first to the ground, break my head open, and start bleeding profusely on the really disgusting carpet in my dorm room. Yup, I’d be screwed. Thank the loft-builders for safety rails, right? Every morning I climb out of my loft and down a ladder to get out of bed, only after hitting the snooze button five times on the five alarms I set, grunting “Ugh, I don’t want to get up, ugh…” This is one of the many reasons why I am always late for class - it’s so much work to get out of bed (I’m never going to be a morning person). Being half asleep, I fumble around and wrap myself in my pink towel, put on my flip-flops, grab my shower caddy, room key, and shuffle down the hall to the community bathroom. My eyes are half closed and I hear, “Lisa, why are you always naked? *whistle-whistle*” I forgot to mention that I live in a co-ed hallway…boys are such creep-O’s. After I get out of the shower I take FOREVER trying to figure out what to wear to class, and thoughts fill my head: “What sweatpants should I wear? Should I wear the sweatshirt I wore to bed or the only one that’s still clean? Maybe I’ll dress up…haha! NOT. Hmm…I wonder if I should roll up my sweatpants today…it’s kind of nice outside. No, wait…I haven’t shaved my legs in 3 weeks…”

  • i am soooo tiiiireeddd!!

hello everyone...i usually don't blog but i'm procrastinating and am swamped in school work. never take 4 writing/reading courses + latin. it's awful. it's paper after paper after paper after annotations after readings after translations...then exams. ugh. help. me. i've lost all sense of punctuation or the will to care. i just finished writing a paper on the formal strategies that helped in the clarity of film narrative...then i finished a paper analyzing a i'm writing a paper on the "cinema of attractions" and make an argument between different theories from three film theorists. never go to college. just kidding. but i. am. fried. internship apps are due friday. i'm applying to a bunch in NY and i am nowhere near done changing my cover letters for each place or printing out my resumes and cover letters on fancy paper. then book reading friday, book reading saturday. latin exam monday. 14 annotations due the next week. that's my life in a nutshell at the moment!!

  • yo.

Me. Not much of a blogger. Never blogged until now. Don't plan on doing it lots. No time. Not really my thing.

2:26 in the morning. Just finished awful research paper. JOY.

Can't sleep. Xenergy drink's not wearing off. Soo bad for you. Yet so helpful.

Starting Latin homework now. Hate Latin. Glad it's dead.

Class 9-7 tomorrow. Technically today. Shoot me. Not literally. But it'd be nice.

Sorry no full sentences. Maybe next time.
